Peruvian business against longer terminal concessions

The Council of Users of the International Physical Distribution System of Goods (Conudfi), which brings together, among others, the Exporters’ Association (ADEX) and Lima Chamber of Commerce (CCL), has come out against government proposals to double port concession terms from 30 to 60 years.

For its part, the government argues that this will allow concessionaires to invest more in their terminals, become more efficient and offers more competitive tariffs.

John Hartley, Conudfi president, rejected this, saying that longer concessions will not necessarily result in greater stability and better tariffs for users, as this will depend on the conditions that ultimately ensure improvements in services and on greater commitment of investment in infrastructure.

Current technological advances could also result in longer concessions not being necessary.
