Uruguay turns down dedicated MSC terminal

The original proposal, which had been submitted by MSC’s terminal arm, Terminal Investment Limited, was objected to by technicians, who found flaws in the way that vessel docking manoeuvres would be undertaken. Vessels would have to reverse into a berth, requiring the use of three tugs. This was seen as expensive and a major limitation for surrounding development areas.

Concerns were also raised that the terminal did not take into account movements to and from Quay “C”, or to both its extension and the adjacent bulk terminal.

The report issued by the ANP therefore concluded: “It is not possible to move forward with the proposal in the terms proposed.”
