MOU to speed up sustainability
A new memorandum of understanding (MoU) aims to ensure a faster route for testing and implementation of sustainable innovations by key equipment, technology, cargo handling and financial services providers into the worlds major ports.
Announced at TOC Europe 2018, the MoU between the International Cargo Handling Coordination Association (ICHCA International) and the International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH) will see the organisations pursuing cooperative projects of mutual interest and will include the sharing of the research and findings of ICHCA’s Technical Panel with IAPH’s technical committees and working groups with common interests, all of which have port representatives.
ICHCA deputy chairman Laurence Jones said: “ICHCA and IAPH have worked together for many years and this MoU formalises that relationship. We look forward to working more closely together to improve safety and efficiency in the port and terminal industry.”
WPSP boost
The agreement is expected to provide a major boost to the IAPH’s recently launched World Ports Sustainability Program. Guided by the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals, the programme aims to enhance and coordinate future sustainability efforts of ports worldwide and foster international cooperation with partners in the supply chain.
ICHCA’s Technical Panel recently launched four new working groups on ‘dangerous goods’, ‘digital and innovation’, ‘straddle carrier safety’ and ‘dry bulk cargoes’.
