Opportunities lie in horizontal transport

Speaking exclusively to Port Strategy at TOC Europe, Ruediger Schultz said hinterland operation seems to be a little bit forgotten due to the industry’s focus on automation. However, automation is bringing benefits to multiple facets of operation.

“We’re looking forward to having autonomous driven tractors and to get the real advantage decoupled logistics is needed,” he said.

Discussing the ability of AUCOS-Systems’ automatic coupling system to transmit, air, electricity and data from tractor to trailer, Mr Schultz explained: “This means you can separate the expensive from the cheap resource and you can be much more effective than before.”

Mr Schultz spoke about AUCOS Coup at TOC Europe, focusing on truck and trailer application for hinterland operation at large container terminals.

He explained that the technology is in use at Long Beach Container Terminal and Global Container Terminals Vancouver, adding that companies using the technology could benefit from a 33% productivity increase.
