Ports needs to force standardisation

Speaking exclusively to Port Strategy at TOC Europe 2018, Dr Savelsberg said that interfacing standardisation and data-sharing would mean that good quality data would be more freely available.

She added that the whole ports and terminals market needs “a common approach on how to share data and how to share at the right moment in time”. This would give the market “the freedom to have specific suppliers for specific tasks” and get “best practice up and running”.

“We can only improve the supply chain and the port business when we share data,” she said.

Dr Savelsberg also spoke about artificial intelligence and machine learning in a video interview with Port Strategy, saying that during the coming decades, the port sector will likely “see a lot of evolution out of those tools.

“They improve so much, you can apply them to so many different areas and they have such a high potential,” she commented.
