Smarter truck scheduling boosts terminal efficiency

The system introduces vehicle-level booking to improve landside access, reduce waiting times and enhance operational predictability at the container terminal.

“The platform is already successfully operating at several Northern European terminals with significantly higher gate traffic volumes than in our port, providing a solid reference for its deployment in the Port of Algeciras Bay,” the operator confirmed.

Data-driven management

The project has been developed in cooperation with passify, a German technology company specialised in digital solutions for truck flow coordination at container terminals.

With a strong focus on operational efficiency and data-driven management, passify brings extensive experience from other international container terminals, including at the Port of Hamburg. 

The TAS enables advance planning of truck flows, optimising gate capacity and terminal resources while supporting smoother cargo flow.

The system monitors compliance, no-shows, cancellations and peak-hour demand through quality indicators designed to promote continuous operational improvement across container operations.

Transport orders remain unchanged, with the TAS functioning as an additional digital layer exclusively for transport companies.

Appointments are managed at vehicle level, linked to licence plates and automatically validated upon arrival. They are booked via a user-friendly application, allocated within a defined 30-minute time window and capable of covering multiple transport orders in a single visit.

The project forms part of a broader programme to strengthen port digitalisation and landside efficiency.

Other recent measures include the launch of a VGM gate weighing service and system upgrades aimed at improving process efficiency in gate operations at the Port of Algeciras Bay.

The implementation has also benefited from the active involvement of the Algeciras Bay Container Transport Association (ATCBA) and its member companies, whose support and participation during first testing and fine-tuning has been key to adapting the system to real operational needs at the port.
