Khalifa Port expands drydock services

This latest expansion will help the port meet the growing demand from domestic and overseas clients for a range of services such as logistics, container and cargo handling, vessel repairs and maintenance.

“The addition of drydock services is a strategic move aimed at driving growth and enhancing the company’s competitive position in the market,” said Captain Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, managing director and group chief executive, AD Ports Group.

“This expansion is part of our ongoing commitment to provide our clients with the best possible services and solutions to meet their evolving needs, while further enhancing Abu Dhabi’s position as a leading hub for global trade,” Captain Al Shamisi added.

Inaugurated in December 2012, Khalifa Port is developed from a stretch of reclaimed land four kilometres out to sea and is now a major hub serving more than 25 container shipping lines.

An earlier AE$4 billion (€1 billion) expansion in December last year has seen the port grow from 2.43 km2 to 8.63 km2, with development of the port’s South Quay, Khalifa Port Logistics, and Abu Dhabi Terminals. This increase will help AD Ports achieve its goal of increasing handling capacity to 15 million teu per year.
