Port of Dover welcomes EU-UK deal

As the UK’s main gateway for trade with the EU, handling approximately one-third of all UK-EU goods trade, Dover is well-positioned to benefit from the reductions in border frictions promised by the agreement.

The deal includes key commitments to simplifying trading and travel arrangements, with a particular focus on eliminating barriers such as sanitary and phytosanitary checks on animal and plant products. The port is optimistic that these measures will be implemented quickly, facilitating smoother trade across the Channel.

This agreement directly reflects discussions held at the recent Short Straits Summit, where leaders from the maritime, logistics, infrastructure and business sectors emphasised the need for frictionless trade, regulatory cooperation and a shared commitment to innovation and decarbonisation. The improvements to border processes are expected to restore confidence for businesses and investors, drive economic growth and enhance supply chain resilience.

The port says it is committed to working closely with the UK and French governments, and Brussels to ensure effective implementation of the deal and to maximise the shared prosperity on both sides of the Channel.
