NZ port productivity slammed
New Zealand Business Roundtable executive director Roger Kerr has strongly criticised the productivity of the local port sector.
Alluding to a graph illustrating Maersk Line’s 2010 container productivity in gross moves per hour (GMPH), Mr Kerr said “much higher rates” were being achieved elsewhere than the 20 GMPH average in New Zealand.
“Port size, ship size, labour restrictions and other factors do not fully explain the differences,” he said.
However, Mr Kerr did note the productivity being delivered by the Port of Tauranga.
