ABP partnership strengthens Sizewell C logistics
Associated British Ports (ABP), Brett and Tarmac have formed a coordinated logistics partnership to scale operations at Ipswich and support construction of Sizewell C.
The collaboration will provide the nuclear project with a single, integrated tri-modal supply chain through ABP’s West Bank facility at the Port of Ipswich. The partners aim to support Sizewell C’s target for at least 60% of construction materials to arrive by rail or sea.
Paul Ager, divisional port manager at ABP, said: “We believe this partnership gives Sizewell C a practical solution with strong marine and rail capacity at its core.” He said Ipswich offered the scale, storage, quayside capacity and connectivity required to support reliable deliveries while reducing pressure on local roads.
ABP will provide operational control at the port, including vessel calls, discharge and storage, with the West Bank offering a tri-modal site for large-scale handling of aggregates and construction materials.
Brett, which has operated in Ipswich since the 1980s, is already supplying Sizewell C with Tarmac material imported into the port by rail. Its West Bank site provides established aggregate handling capability, vessel access and connections to the rail network.
Tarmac will contribute specialist materials expertise, high-grade product supply and experience in major infrastructure and rail projects. Its ISO 19443 certification also provides additional quality controls for supplying the nuclear industry.
The partnership is designed to scale as Sizewell C develops, allowing storage, handling and material movements to expand and adapt to changing programme requirements.
The companies said the locally grounded supply chain would provide a dependable route for high-volume construction materials while supporting more efficient and lower-impact deliveries to the project.
The initiative brings together established regional businesses and existing supply routes to strengthen programme resilience and technical certainty for Sizewell C.
