Committee pushes for ports policy update

The UK Transport Committee has called on the government to strengthen its draft revised National Policy Statement for ports, highlighting the need to streamline planning, support decarbonisation and recognise ports as critical national priority

The report aims to ensure that UK ports can meet growing trade, energy and regional economic demands over the coming decades.

The Committee recommends designating ports as CNP, improving demand forecasts and calls for clearer guidance on what constitutes ‘good design’.
