ITI announces major equipment upgrades

This investment is part of the Chilean terminal operator’s strategy to solidify its position as a leading multipurpose port terminal, allowing it to tap into new markets and expand its customer base.

“We are focused on improving ITI’s competitiveness and productivity, for which this significant investment in equipment is essential,” said ITI’s general manager, Rodrigo Pommiez.

“These actions align with a strategy of exploring new market opportunities, including incorporating other services that will enhance the port’s operational efficiency and offer our customers comprehensive logistics solutions.

“We expect these improvements we are implementing to drive regional economic growth and strengthen Iquique’s competitiveness as a key logistics hub in northern Chile.”

In the first half of 2025, the terminal will introduce a second state-of-the-art mobile crane, a Konecranes ESP.10, alongside the first batch of eight Kalmar container cranes.

ITI is also implementing a 4G LTE network, aimed at improving data transmission speeds, minimising errors and enhancing cargo traceability. This technological upgrade will enable better information capture and smoother logistics processes, improving overall service quality at the terminal.

In 2024, ITI handled 2.5 million tonnes of cargo, marking a solid performance for the year.
