Associated British Ports has announced ambitious development plans for the Port of Newport, aiming to strengthen its role as the UK’s largest steel-handling port and a key gateway for global trade

With a planned investment exceeding £80 million, the initiative is set to create over 50 new full-time jobs and significantly enhance operational efficiency and cargo-handling capabilities.

The Port of Newport, which handled 2 million tonnes of steel in 2024 – representing 29% of the UK’s total iron and steel products – is now poised for further expansion.
