The UK’ s Argyll Telecom has launched a waterproof device for mobile personnel monitoring allowing easy pinpointing of workers in an emergency. The MaxCare device, which can be worn on the arm, leg, shoulder, waist or sewn into an item of clothing, combines mobile phone and satellite location monitoring technology.

Argyll's 21st century monitoring for dock workers

It is one of a range of purpose-made lone workers safety devices specifically formulated to meet UK Health and Safety regulations and new Corporate Manslaughter legislation which comes into effect in June.

To raise a distress signal the worker squeezes the unit, transmitting a signal to Argyll Telecom’s 24/7-manned control room where assistance is summoned and pinpointed to the wearer’s position by global positioning system technology. The armband then uses vibration alerts to acknowledge that the signal has been received and that help is on its way.
