The Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) has implemented Kaleris’ Navis N4 4.0 terminal operating system, advancing terminal efficiency and port technology capabilities.

As Malaysia’s largest transshipment hub, PTP has relied on its Navis N4 system since 2019. This fourth-generation upgrade represents the largest-scale deployment of the N4 4.0 globally, setting new benchmarks in terminal efficiency. 

“It is truly remarkable to witness this upgrade successfully implemented on schedule and without any unplanned disruption to our port’s daily operations,” said Tan Sri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh, PTP’s Chairman.

“Subjecting the system to rigorous stress tests has validated its robustness and readiness to meet future challenges, reaffirming PTP’s standing among the world’s top container terminals.”

System capability

During the upgrade, PTP set a historic record by deploying 48 cranes in a single 12-hour shift, demonstrating the system’s capability under real-world conditions.

This milestone project was achieved through months of meticulous planning led by PTP in collaboration with Kaleris and APM Terminals.

The system upgrade enhances operational resilience, integrating advanced features like Kafka messaging and improved software configurations for faster processing and greater stability.

PTP’s chief executive officer, Mark Hardiman, highlighted the achievement as a testament to innovation in port technology: “This upgrade is pivotal in ensuring safety, reliability, and improved customer satisfaction through enhanced terminal operating systems and processes.”

Ranked as the fifth most efficient container port globally, PTP said it will continue to lead in innovation, showcasing its commitment to future-ready port technology and sustainable growth.
