James Brewer has for the last four years been a freelance journalist. Earlier he had a long career as a staff correspondent on a variety of newspapers, including 10 years as insurance editor of Lloyd’s List; in the 1970s he was London industrial correspondent for the Liverpool Daily Post and Echo.

Since 2008 he has contributed the column The Insurer to Port Strategy magazine. In addition to the marine and insurance sectors, his professional interests include writing on the fine arts.
