Secondhand units not the steal they appear to be

A secondhand market for fork-lift trucks certainly exists – even if its sold back to the dealer under buy back terms included in the original tender.

With a front line life of a minimum of ten years, or around 10,000 operating hours, and being easily moveable, FLTs are in usually in hot demand.

However, selling machines is proving difficult at the moment given the prevailing economic conditions. And if a seller can be found, ICTSI’s Andy Andrews questions the logic of secondhand purchases.

“Clearly, this market exists. However, there is a danger that buying second hand means inheriting somebody else’s problems!” he says.

“You have to ask yourself why they got rid of their FLTs in the first place and work backwards from there!”
