South African dockers strike
Dockers at Durban, Cape Town and Richards Bay have refused a 6.2% pay offer and are holding out for 8%.
Adsteam ceo Europe, Stephen Eastwood added:
A conciliator acceptable to both sides was to be appointed and arbitration proceedings to commence this month. If there is no resolution then further strike action is likely. Besides the dispute over pay, and various other issues, the South African Ports Operator (SAPO) claims crane drivers are failing to achieve productivity targets and are too old for the job.
