Global sustainability initiative, Sustainia, has launched its 2013 hunt to identify 100 readily available sustainable solutions that can be developed across a wide variety of industries and markets, along with an overall winner for innovation.
Sustainia100 is an annual list of the most innovative international projects and technologies across ten categories: Buildings, food, fashion, transportation, IT, education, energy, health, cities and resources.
It is the second year the Sustainia100 list has been published – the initiative was launched at the RIO+20 summit last year.
Partners in the campaign include global certification expert, Det Norske Veritas (DNV), UN Global Compact, Nobel Sustainability Trust, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s initiative Regions20, IFHP and other world-leading companies, including Ramboll and Vestas.
When all of the submissions have been received, a jury will select the most groundbreaking solutions to make the list and select one overall winner.
The jury is made up of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Chair of Regions20 and Honorary Chair of Sustainia, Gustaf Nobel, Chair of Nobel Sustainability Trust; Gro Harlem Brundtland, former Prime Minister of Norway; Dr Rajendra K Pachauri, Chairman of UN’s climate panel and Connie Hedegaard, EU Commissioner for Climate Action.
The winning solution will be honoured with the Sustainia Award at a ceremony in Copenhagen in October 2013.
This year Connie Hedegaard, European Commissioner for Climate Action, will present a separate award for year the best European solution among the submissions.
Nominations for the Sustainia100 list can be submitted up until 22 March 2013.
