The EU has launched a new European Ports Alliance to combat drug trafficking but has excluded a major port. Piraeus was not included in the participants to launch the initiative, with this assumed to be due to its Chinese majority ownership. This new project was jointly initiated by the government of Belgium, the current (rotating) president of the EU.
