The Port of Los Angeles’ data portal will undergo a series of major enhancements, thanks to a US$8 million grant from the Californian government.
The Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz) award was the largest of five grants totalling US$27 million to improve data and supply chain functionality across California’s ports.
The grant will help fund three new components for the Port of LA’s well-established Port Optimizer technology.
“This GO-Biz funding will help the Port of Los Angeles accelerate our proven technology to further improve efficiency, lower impacts on our communities and make us more competitive,” said Port of Los Angeles executive director Gene Seroka.
“We’re grateful to the state of California and GO-Biz for being the first state to step up with policy and funding to enhance supply chain digitalisation.”
First introduced in 2017 and reportedly the only port community data platform of its kind in North America, Port Optimizer is a cloud-based portal which digitalises shipping data through a secure single access point.
The grant will be used to enhance the port’s truck appointment system, develop a new CalPorts mobile application, and add a single gateway for collecting environmental impacts of port operations. The gateway will give users a ‘Green Asset Score’ in real-time to help cargo movers choose optimal routes which balance speed with emissions impact.
