Terminals prepare for equipment influx

Shanghai-based Zhenhua Heavy Industries Co (ZPMC) is to supply state-of-the-art ‘mega’ container cranes for Peel Ports Group as part of its £300m investment programme in its new Liverpool2 development.

Relocating RTGs: It took Portek around 100 days to complete the crane relocation

ZPMC will initially supply five ship-to-shore (STS) megamax quay cranes and 12 cantilever rail-mounted gantry cranes (CRMGs) for phase one of the contract, and a further three STS cranes and 10 CRMGs in phase two.

Elsewhere in Asia, Portek Systems and Equipment recently relocated a bath of full erected STS gantry cranes and rubber-tyred gantry cranes (RTGs) from Busan, Korea to Laem Chabang, Thailand.

In addition, Portek Systems and Equipment and PT Portek Indonesia have secured contracts from Terminal Petikemas Surabaya for the recovery and repair of two quay cranes. The project is expected to be completed by the end of June 2014.

Whilst in the Middle East, to support the growing trade in Dubai, Phase III of Jebel Ali is set to be the most technologically advanced terminal of its generation. DP World has ordered 19 units of RAM Spreaders’ ‘Singleflex’ tandem headblock and 40 units of RAM ‘CentreSpread’ twinlift STS crane spreaders.

At the quay side, DPW has ordered 50 units of automated rail mounted gantry cranes with Ram Model 3970 ‘All-Electric CentreSpread’ telescopic spreaders.

DP World’s London Gateway Container Terminal in the UK is also set for new influx of equipment in the form of eight units of RAM Spreaders ‘Singleflex’ tandem headblocks and 18 units of RAM ‘CentreSpread’ twinlift STS crane spreaders, which are fitted with RAM’s ‘ShockAbsorb’ for noise and impact suppression.
