A new Danish Maritime Days report proposes 41 actions to address some of the most important challenges facing the global maritime industry – including how to grow and reduce its environmental impact at the same time.
One of the key findings of new report called Unleashing the potential of the global maritime industry is that there needs to be more collaboration across the entire industry and all relevant stakeholders, especially if the industry is to meet the estimated demand for transporting 20bn tonnes of cargo annually by 2030.
Flemming R Jacobs, secretary general of Danish Maritime Days, said: “The report suggests the industry can increase its positive impact on globalisation and human wellbeing by significantly reducing its environmental impact while still growing. The participants see smart global regulation and innovation as important steps to achieve this.”
Being a hot topic for a plenary discussion at the most recent Danish Maritime Forum, Mr Jacobs said that the report generated feedback from attendees who expressed that a significant investment and a better integration between maritime and connected infrastructure would be a major enabler for growth, especially when it comes to the emerging economies.
The next Danish Maritime Forum will take place during the Danish Maritime Days weeklong event in Copenhagen from 5 to 9 October 2015.
Mercator Media’s GreenPort Congress and Cruise event will also take place alongside the event from 7 to 9 October 2015 where the focus will very much be on bringing all stakeholders together in terms of environmental strategy.
