Too many agencies in Nigerian ports
Nigerias Ministry of Transport has investigated claims put forward by the Joint Action Committee of Freight Forwarders that national ports are imposing illegal charges and found them to be true.
It blames the way and manner in which ports are operated for the abuse.
Above all, it notes that there are too many agencies working within terminals and too many unidentified individuals linked with the Customs services.
As a result of the extra charges, cargo that would naturally enter the country via Lagos is being diverted to ports in neighbouring countries.
