Trouble at Liberian National Port Authority

Having been with the port for 30 years McKenzie was last year replaced by John Parker and having served the port for 33 years, Mayson was this year succeeded by Mark Cairns.

In August, the transitional chairman of Liberia’s National Ports Authority (NPA) sacked the entire board of directors who he accused of not using public bidding procedures and of failing to call in the Contract and Monopolies Commission to examine purchases. Although a new board has subsequently been appointed it appears that the Israeli company Global Seals has already been granted the exclusive right to build and operate a container terminal at Freeport in Monrovia, which goes against current policy.
