Major stakeholders in New Zealand’s supply chain appear united in their support for maintaining two major upper North Island ports to handle the country’s international freight needs.
This is despite Port of Tauranga’s performance during the recent industrial action at Ports of Auckland, which peaked with a month of March throughput of 55,000 containers (86,326 teu) up 81% year-on-year.
Meanwhile, the Port of Tauranga is also in the throes of expanding its terminal, rail siding, straddle carrier fleet, wharf and crane facilities.
