Shoreside power aids zero-emission goal

Shoreside power will be installed at a Norwegian port to help it move towards zero-emission operations.

BluEco Shore Power System

Blueday Technology has signed an agreement with the Port of Sandnes for the design, engineering, supply, installation and commissioning of the BluEco Shore Power System.

The BluEco Shore Power system is equipped with an Active Front End and Grid Converter solution. Blueday Technology combines the grid converter and active front end features in its drive solution, controlled by its automation system for an easy user interface which makes the shore power system easy to operate.

This shore-to-ship power solution will enable vessels docked in the port to draw all the electricity needed for operating their onboard systems, including ventilation and cooling, from the local power network.

The use of shoreside power allows ships to shut off their diesel engines while docked in port. This results in reductions in greenhouse gas and noise emissions as well as vibrations, improving environmental conditions for people in and around the port. It also allows an opportunity window for maintenance work on the engines.

Blueday Technology’s operating centre in Stavanger will execute the contract, scheduled to be completed during the second half of 2020.

Equipped to handle mixed cargo, fishing and leisure vessels, the small Port of Sandnes began constructing a new dock in December 2019, due to be ready by summer 2020. The project comprises approximately 60m of quay, which is being prepared for the new shore power system.
