One port equiment manufacturer has launched a new robotic portfolio designed to improve safety and eco-efficiency
Kalmar said that its new Robotic Portfolio features a range of intelligent, flexible and autonomous mobile equipment solutions designed to improve safety and eco-efficiency without compromising productivity.
The portfolio, which will consist of the Kalmar RoboTractor, RoboLifter, RoboStacker and RoboHandler and prototypes, are currently being tested at different sites around the world.
“In our industry someone loses their life on the job every five days. We want to help our customers to keep their people safe and reduce their impact on the environment with cutting-edge equipment solutions that make no compromises in terms of safety, sustainability and productivity,” said Lasse Eriksson, vice president, technology at Kalmar.
Autonomous future
Mr Eriksson said that with the new equipment, Kalmar’s goal is to make automation and robotics technologies accessible to new customer segments, including distribution centres and heavy logistics, in addition to ports and terminals.
”With this new portfolio we are laying the foundations for a future driven by fully autonomous, unmanned material handling with zero accidents, zero emissions and maximum productivity,” he said.
With the introduction of the new portfolio, Mr Eriksson said that Kalmar is enhancing its already extensive and well-established automation offering with autonomous, self-driven solutions that will be capable of operating in mixed-traffic environments in the future.
With intelligence moved to equipment from central systems, robotised solutions don’t require heavy investment in infrastructure and they’re particularly suited to smaller equipment fleets.
