Eco-friendly tug for Haifa Port

Elad arrived last week in Haifa Port after a direct voyage from Northern Spain, where it was built in a local shipyard, according to Port2Port.

The new tug is a sister vessel to the Ilan I, which began towing and general harbour operations at Haifa Port in 2012. It will be used to enable giant ships to dock at the Carmel Terminal.

It has a length of 31.5m and a 12.5m beam, the new vessel’s Voith Design hull has a bollard pull of 75 tonnes.

The new tug will be equipped with 2 Voith 32R5 propulsion units coupled to the two MAN 8L27/38 main engines, each developing 2,670 kW.

This particular set-up will maximise harbour manoeuvrability and minimise emissions as well as reduce noise and vibration levels.
