Shore side power at Bergen

Cavotec, Schneider Electric and the Port of Bergen have hosted a shore side power event gathering together leading experts to discuss how the technology is playing an increasingly important role in reducing emissions at the worlds ports.

Schneider Electric’s ShoreBoX solution allows ports to supply energy for ships at berth

At the event held on 16 June, topics on the agenda included key aspects of global shipping’s use of shore power, including the latest developments in shore power technologies, how changes in regulatory frameworks are affecting the application of shore power, and the challenges that exist for its wider use.

Didier Rochas, Vice-President Shore Connection Solution, Schneider Electric, said: “Our efforts are concentrated in the engineering of ports’ electrical networks. This provides long lasting value to our partnerships with ports and ship owners.”

He said that ports must collaborate to find new ways to reduce emissions and noise within their areas of operation and that innovative energy management is vital in an industry of large polluters and consumers of energy within cities.

More than ever, the energy supply for ships at berth is at the forefront of green and automated solutions that allow ports to meet their customers’ demands.

In their efforts towards green development, ports all over the world have implemented shore connection facilities with Schneider Electric’s ShoreBoX solution, which allows them to supply energy for ships at berth, including ports in California (US), Bergen (Norway), Marseille (France), Jakarta (Indonesia), Shangai (China).

The Port of Bergen entered into the first phase of implementing shore side power for offshore supply ships in January 2015.
