TheBrazilian port of Paranaguá has issued a dredging tender worth $61.6m.It is the first ever issued in that country allowing internationalcompetition in this sector. The contract is for five years and involveswork in the Canal da Galheta.

The ports secretariat has therefore allocated $801m to capital dredging projects, which it is hoped will resolve the problem within two to three years, giving Brazilian ports a 10-year cushion before this problem needs addressing again.
