Alumina ship loader for Brazil

With environmental benefits and impressive efficiency, the ship loader is designed to load Kamsarmax-type vessels up to 80,000 dwt and is destined for a production plant in Barcarena, Para, located in Northeast Brazil. The plant, owned by Alunorte, had an annual production of 1.6 million tonnes of alumina in 2000, which, by 2006 had increased to 4.2 million tonnes. Its latest planned expansion will increase this figure to around 6.3 million tonnes per year. Cargotec was contracted to replace the company’s existing belt-type ship loader, which needs to be changed because of problems related to high dust emissions. “Cargotec’s new Siwertell ship loader is built on a different design concept to the old existing loader,” explains Douglas Wichers, Sales Manager for bulk terminals. “The new design is based on a totally-enclosed air slide system and a Cleveland cascade-type vertical telescopic loading spout. In combination with two dust collectors at the transfer points, this will be a very efficient loading system when it comes to the elimination of dust emissions into the environment.”
