Auckland reviews challenges
Ports of Auckland (PoAL) acting chairperson Rodger Fisher has predicted the 2015-2016 financial year will deliver a “subdued” result for his firm, particularly in light of softening global dairy prices and a falling New Zealand Dollar.
“We have seen an immediate softening in some import trades and it is uncertain how this year’s import season will hold up,” he stated in PoAL’s annual review.
“Car volumes remain strong, although we are forecasting slower growth this year, as well as a decline in some bulk commodities as a result of a slowdown in the Chinese economy.”
However, Mr Fisher notes that an ongoing drive to lift operational efficiency, sustainability improvements and initiatives to strategically balance imports and exports have forged “strong foundations” that will drive future performance.
