Conductix-Wampfler Group is expanding its container handling equipment portfolio with the acquisition of France’s LASSTEC.
The company says the acquisition will enable it to meet the stricter regulations of the Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) from the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) which will see the weighing of containers before loading them onto ships made mandatory by 2017.

LASSTEC’s Twistlock Load Sensing and Accident Prevention System is based on sensors attached in each corner of a container spreader that send reliable weight data to the Interrogator.
This unit analyses the data collected and forwards directly to the cabin of the crane or the higher level terminal control system entrusted with coordination and performance of ship loading.
This ensures there are no accidents during loading in port, which in turn reduces accidents on the high sea, ensuring the draft or stability of ship is not compromised.
LASSTEC will be integrated into the Conductix-Wampfler Focus Market organisation and its contacts will remain available to customers.
