Container moves increased by 30%

Bemo Rail’s general manager, Teun Druijf told PS that the three partners were selected from a shortlist of six bidders. The award followed a lengthy pre-selection process which was narrowed down to a final shortlist of two. Bemo Rail’s portion of the contract will be to provide rail paths for the terminal’s quay cranes and RMGs, as well as the rails for the rail terminal and the crane rails for the rail terminal. They will also install a rail system to move the locomotives from one rail to another. The contract is worth €62m, will commence late this year or early next year and is due to be completed by 2007/8.

With its first spreader of this type, the port managed to increase the number of container moves per hour by 30%. The spreader, including two fully loaded containers, can be adjusted to the same angle as the deck, when the ship lists. This contributes to a highly efficient loading/unloading and is, says the port, the only type of spreader that is equipped with the combination of both horizontal and transversal adjustment.
