Coquimbo privatisation to go ahead
Chiles Constitutional Tribunal has overturned an attempt by the port workers at Coquimbo to prevent modernisation of their facility from going ahead.
A concession covering the entire port will now be offered, calling for investment of $50m to bring capacity up to 2m tonnes a year, compared with the 600,000 tonne limit in place at the moment.
Half of the existing traffic is fruit and the rest is export minerals generated by the Teck Carmen Company.
