General Prayuth Chan-ocha, Thailand’s Prime Minister, has visited neighbouring Myanmar for official discussions which included the development of Dawei Deep Sea port, Thailand’s official NNT, news agency said.
The high level discussions and strong signals of official Japanese support mean the stalled mega-project, a port in Myanmar with on-land links to Thailand, is now firmly back on the agenda.
“Both countries will join forces in pushing forward Dawei Special Economic Zone project. A meeting of Joint High-Level Committee (JHC) for Dawei SEZ is scheduled to be held the end of this year,” the official Thaigov site said.
This will be followed by a later meeting with the Japanese who are involving themselves with the project.
“We would like to see the Dawei project advance in cooperation with Thailand and Myanmar after a long suspension," Japan’s vice foreign minister Minoru Kiuchi said during a recent visit to Thailand.
