Maersk is expanding its e-commerce interests

Danish shipping and logistics company Maersk has acquired Visible Supply Chain Management (Visible SCM), a US-based business-to-consumer (B2C) logistics company focused on parcel delivery and e-fulfilment services in the US, and reached an agreement to acquire Netherlands-based B2C Europe, a logistics company focused on B2C parcel delivery services in Europe.

“I’m delighted to welcome Visible SCM and look forward to welcoming B2C Europe to the Maersk family,” said Aymeric Chandavoine, global head of logistics and services in Maersk. “Adding these companies and their capabilities and reach to our L&S business will enable us to serve our customers better by significantly increasing our coverage and capabilities in B2C fulfilment and B2C delivery.”

Both Visible SCM and B2C Europe are well-established in the e-commerce logistics industry and the acquisitions are expected to bring high-performance expertise, infrastructure and technology to the services and network already offered at Maersk.

Maersk has made the acquisitions alongside the increasing relevance of business-to-consumer supply chains. Its goal to build its e-commerce capabilities is in line with its strategy to become the global integrator of logistics.

The acquisition of B2C Europe is subject to regulatory approvals and the transaction is expected to close in Q4, 2021
