Doyle Shipping Group (DSG) is to take receipt of a new Liebherr hybrid rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) crane at Dublin Port.
With a safe working load of 41 tonnes, the new RTG has a span of 25.9 metres, equivalent to seven containers plus a truck lane wide, and a lift height of 21 metres, which is more than six containers high.
Liebherr has worked with DSG at the Irish port since 1999 when it supplied a first order of six harbour mobile cranes. Subsequent years saw the addition of five more mobile harbour cranes and, in 2007, the port received its first three RTGs. This latest order brings the number currently in operation at the terminal to 12.
Liebherr also supplied a ship to shore container crane in 2015.

Using waste energy
Liebherr produces the LES 200, a capacitor system that captures and preserves the energy produced during hoist lowering and braking which would otherwise go to waste.
The captured energy is redeployed during peak demand to reduce the overall energy consumption and emissions of the RTG, benefitting the environment and lowering running and maintenance costs. The solution is available on both new machines and as a retrofittable solution via Liebherr Transform.
