Taiwan is to conditionally allow Chinese businesses to invest in build-operate-transfer projects at its ports from this year, according to government officials.

Transportation and communications vice minister Yeh Kuang-shih confirmed: "There will be a breakthrough in government policy later this year to permit Chinese investors to participate in BOT construction projects at local ports."

However, Chinese investors will not be allowed to own more than 50% of a single project; nor will they have management power.
