Next year''s first GreenPort South Asia conference, being organised by Mercator Media, is garnering support from some important players in the region in light of the need for growing awareness of environmental consequences.
Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), the Maharashtra Maritime Board, the India Private Ports & Terminal's Association and the Association of Multimodal Transport Operators of India have all pledged their support for the conference that will be held in Mumbai, India, from 20-22 March 2013.
The conference has already provoked widespread interest from professionals from across the region, with delegates from India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia and Hong Kong looking to attend the event. It's also gaining international attention - key personnel at ports and terminals across Europe, USA, Australia and Brazil have also indicated they will attend.
As well as the practical issues of pollution control, the programme at GreenPort South Asia will cover environmentally efficient technologies for planning, expansion, operations and equipment. It will also look at the realistic levels of carbon emissions that can be achieved, together with investment opportunities and the greening of the logistics chain.
Furthermore, discussion sessions will be built into the programme to ensure a dialogue between the ports, terminals operators, shippers, logistics companies and shipping lines in attendance.
