Haropa hackathon highlights innovation

It was organised in cooperation with SOGET, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry ‘Seine Estuaire’ and the French Merchant Navy Higher School (ENSM Ecole Nationale Supérieure Maritime).

76 registered entrants including students from various schools, professionals, start-ups or developers, met to think together about the development of innovation in the port ecosystem on the scale of the Seine valley.

After 24 hours, the projects were presented to a panel of experts who decided on the winners for each challenge. For the first, ‘re-examine the logistics performance and port transit’, the winner was the co-container project which was a creation of a collaborative platform in order to increase the container stuffing rate.

The second challenge was ‘combine environment and port safety’, the winners of this challenge was the safe port project. It included detecting pollution and gas emissions to strengthen the information given to company staff and residents of the SEVESO zones. The team developed an Android application which connects you direct to a network of fixed or mobile sensors.

‘Boost the services and the flows of information to the general public’ was the first challenge. For this, and also winning €1000, was the live boat project. It surrounded the creation of an augmented-reality application for smartphone which enables you to get information about a ship (type, size, origin, destination, etc.) by directing your phone towards the ship).

Overall, the top prize was awarded to the stop over cruise project, which involved an application which enables you to collect information about the city, the purpose if it emphasised the port as a port of call in order to attract cruise passengers.
