Basque region introduces ports legislation
In Spain, the Gobierno Vasco (Basque Government) has approved maritime transport and ports legislation that will establish a management model for 15 ports that fall under its competence.
These are Hondarribia, San Sebastián, Orio, Getaria, Zumaia, Deba, Mutriku, Ondarroa, Lekeitio, Ea, Elantxobe, Mundaka, Bermeo, Armintza and Plentzia.
Consejera de Desarrollo Económico e Infraestructuras (Economic Development and Infrastructure Minister) Arantxa Tapia said that a set of rules is necessary that allow regular and efficient use of ports in the autonomous region. She added that Basque ports are mostly small in size, although varied in nature, and often embedded at the very heart of the community.
The management model to be adopted is based on sustainability, legal solidarity, accessibility and inter-modality.
