Barcelona eyes El Prat II

Barcelona port authority is to issue a concession for phase two development of its new Prat quay.

This will initially cover consulting work aimed at achieving the same degree of consolidation of infill material commensurate with that in phase one. The award is expected to be made by the end of November.

Tercat, owned by HPH (70%) and the Mestre group (30%), has confirmed it plans to invest ¢860m ($1.3bn) during the course of its 30-year concession to operate the container terminal at this quay.

This is an increase of ¢200m ($293m) since the concession was granted in June 2006. Up to 70% of the new terminal is planned to be available for use by December 2008.
