In the Ukraine the largest and deepest bulk terminal is TIS(TransInvestService Ltd), on the Black Sea 40km south of Odessa.Already equipped with dedicated terminals for ore, coal, grain andfertilisers, the port authority is hard at work creating a containerterminal with a capacity of 1.5m teu, which it expects to have finishedby the middle of 2009.

The year after that it will have more than 2km of quayside, and is already crying out for shippers to use it and companies to move into the 500-hectare industrial park being created behind it. Steps are also being taken to create a ro-ro terminal, and the port authority is on the lookout for partners to work with them on its creation.

General manager Alexey Stavnitser says: “TIS is Ukraines’s largest terminal for bulk cargoes and is a transit gate to a greater part of south-east Russia and neighbouring countries. It has a strategic location in relation to the Ukrainian hinterland. We are investing all the time to attract new cargoes; to expand and improve our service. Anyone who would like to work with us shouldn’t hesitate to contact us to organise a meeting or a visit to one of our terminals.”
