Hamburg needs to upgrade infrastructure
Companies using the Port of Hamburg have called upon the government to rapidly implement port facility expansions.
They believe that by treating the current crisis as an opportunity Hamburg can recover its infrastructure deficit.
The call comes on the back of intensifying signs of recovery in the global economy in recent months.
At the German port, the sharp decline in fourth quarter 2008 traffic has not continued into 2009, where tonnage stabilised over the summer, suggesting that the downturn has bottomed out.
