APM calls for culture of safety
APM Terminals wants to get its rivals on board for its zero tolerance stance on accidents and injuries.
Chief executive Kim Fejfer said the company wants to see this project cross traditional boundaries and become industry-wide. “We feel terminal operating companies are not competitors but should consider themselves as partners in this initiative,” he said.
The program aims to instill a “culture of safety” by changing mindsets and increasing individual accountability through workshops prepared in twelve languages.
The company said it recognises that while the growth of the container industry clearly generates economic development, the rising scale of vessels and equipment also raises a statistical risk of terminal accidents and workplace fatalities.
