Hauliers return to work in Spain
On February 5, independent hauliers at the Port of Valencia began talks with Spain’s National Ports Authority to resolve a labour dispute that effectively closed container terminals for the best part of 10 days.
Losses, claim operators, have been “incalculable”, with severe damage done to the port’s image and also to contracts it has with many companies and shipping lines.
Meanwhile, at Barcelona, after a week of strikes organised by haulage associations in response to a series of fines imposed by the competition authorities – prompted by restrictive practices and price fixing – traffic at the TCB and Tercat container terminals increased by 30% as businesses tried to catch up.
