The port of Hamburg has announced that, from the summer onwards, it is to revamp the way it calculates fees, to reflect the amount of traffic any one shipping line handles in the port.
Previously, fees were based on vessel size alone.
The authority suggests that all concerned will benefit from this change, with the port authority obtaining more money during boom periods, and the shipping line benefiting from lower fees during economic downturns.
There will also be an environmental discounted on offer.
