A "confusing" operating climate in India has not deterred Hutchison Port Holdings from considering future investment options in the country, the company has confirmed.

Speaking to Port Strategy, a spokesperson for the company described the situation in India as "sometimes confusing", pointing to recent concession bids where the company had received clearance documents from the authorities, only to see media reports quoting ministry officials claiming that Hutchison had been excluded from bidding due to its close links with the Chinese government.

In response to that claim, HPH points to a public notice on the Indian government (Ministry of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways) website that states no Chinese companies have been banned from investing in port infrastructure projects in India.
